China has cautioned against foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs, declaring its firm support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration amid escalating tensions following U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of military action.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed Beijing’s position, stating that China “firmly supports the Nigerian government as it leads its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.”

“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Ning said, responding to questions on Trump’s comments regarding alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
