China has cautioned against foreign interference in Nigeriaโ€™s internal affairs, declaring its firm support for President Bola Tinubuโ€™s administration amid escalating tensions following U.S. President Donald Trumpโ€™s threat of military action.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed Beijingโ€™s position, stating that China โ€œfirmly supports the Nigerian government as it leads its people on the development path suited to its national conditions.โ€

โ€œAs Nigeriaโ€™s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countriesโ€™ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,โ€ Ning said, responding to questions on Trumpโ€™s comments regarding alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
