The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, has urged students to support their hard work with prayers if they want to achieve true success.

He gave this advice during the matriculation and capping ceremony of 163 students of the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Charles Borromeo Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Archbishop Okeke, who is also the Proprietor of the school, said the college is known for excellence and urged the students to keep up that standard.

โ€œThere is a difference between packaging and excellence. Packaging is about looks, but excellence comes from real effort and discipline,โ€ he said. โ€œStudents must be consistent, hardworking, and prayerful.โ€

He also praised the school management, especially the Administrator, Rev. Fr. Fidelis Nwanze, for keeping the institution strong and focused.

The Provost of the College, Mrs. Theresa Ita-Aniedu, said the school has made great progress in academics, manpower, and infrastructure. However, she noted that they still need more modern training equipment, better transportation, and more funds for research and development.

She called on government agencies, alumni, religious bodies, and corporate organisations to support the collegeโ€™s growth.

Prof. Clementina Nwankwo, who gave the keynote speech, explained that modern nursing started with Florence Nightingale, who promoted hygiene and structured training. She said nursing has grown from basic training into a respected academic and professional field.

The Chairman of the event, Mr. Augustine Emasim, advised the students to stay humble and dedicated, adding that nursing requires compassion and patience.

In his vote of thanks, Rev. Fr. Nwanze thanked Archbishop Okeke for his constant support, saying the Archbishop had improved staff welfare and ensured the school runs smoothly.

He revealed that 115 students were admitted into nursing and 48 into midwifery, adding that the collegeโ€™s success comes from hard work and focus on its goals.

Fr. Nwanzeโ€™s elder brother, Mr. Vincent Nwanze, also thanked God for the success of the event, describing his brother as a devoted priest who has been faithful to his calling.
