President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a list of three ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, as part of efforts to fill vacant diplomatic posts and strengthen Nigeriaโ€™s representation abroad.

The letter conveying the request was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Wednesdayโ€™s plenary. He said the nomination was made in line with Section 171 of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the President to appoint ambassadors subject to Senate approval.

The nominees, whose specific postings are yet to be disclosed, will be referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for documentation and further legislative scrutiny.

The screening exercise is expected to begin in the coming days, after which the committee will submit its report to the Senate for adoption.

Once confirmed, the nominees will join ongoing government efforts to enhance bilateral relations and reposition Nigeriaโ€™s foreign missions.
