A governorship aspirant in Osun State, Dotun Babayemi, says the stateโs economy can only grow stronger if government prioritises agriculture and fixes the poor road networks that continually damage farm produce.
Babayemi, speaking during a ward-to-ward visit to the four local governments of Irewole, Ife North, Oriade and Ilesa East, lamented that deplorable roadsโespecially in rural communitiesโwere undermining farmersโ productivity every year.
He emphasised that an All Progressives Congress-led administration after the 2026 governorship election would prioritise rural development while ensuring urban centres are not neglected, noting that rural roads would receive urgent attention.
According to him, agriculture remains Osunโs most reliable path to economic revival, but the sector cannot thrive without functional road infrastructure that eases movement of produce.
Babayemi added, โItโs only agriculture that can save the economy of Osun State, and without good road networks, that dream is impossible. What could save us in this state is to create economic space and opportunities.
โWe are well situated in the Southwest; there is no state Osun does not share a border with โ Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara. We are right in the middle. We ought to be the engine room of the Southwest economy.โ
