Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says Nigeria can only overcome its recurring challenges if leaders adopt long-term policies that endure beyond the usual electoral cycles. He stressed that short-term politics continues to hinder national development.

Obasanjo explained that Nigeriaโ€™s growth demands strategic planning, consistency in governance, and a mindset that prioritises national interest over political gains. According to him, countries that attain meaningful progress do so by sustaining policies across different administrations.

He urged current officeholders to embrace foresight and discipline, noting that the nationโ€™s progress depends on leadership willing to plan for decades, not just years.
