The Lagos State Government has initiated steps to create a new regulatory agency for private hospitals and clinics, aimed at improving patient safety and strengthening oversight of healthcare facilities.
According to the government, the agency will set and enforce minimum standards, monitor compliance, and ensure that both small and large private health providers operate with proper licenses and qualified personnel. Officials say the move is necessary to curb malpractice and enhance service quality across the sector.
The proposed regulator will also carry out routine inspections, sanction erring facilities, and provide a structured database of private health centres in the state. Authorities added that the initiative aligns with Lagosโ broader plan to modernise healthcare delivery and protect residents from substandard medical services.
More details are expected as the bill progresses through legislative processes.
