Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called on Muslims and Nigerians at large to embrace compassion, unity, and generosity as the holy month of Ramadan begins, while launching his annual food distribution programme across Kwara State.
Saraki, in a statement released on Tuesday, said Ramadan presents an opportunity for reflection, kindness, and renewed commitment to helping the less privileged in society. He urged citizens to use the sacred period to strengthen bonds of peace and extend support to vulnerable communities facing economic challenges.
As part of his humanitarian efforts, the former Kwara governor flagged off the distribution of food items to thousands of households across different local government areas in the state. The initiative, according to his media office, aims to ease the burden on families during the fasting period and ensure that more people can observe Ramadan with dignity.
He emphasised that acts of charity and service to humanity remain central values of Islam, noting that community leaders must continue to prioritise programmes that uplift ordinary people. Saraki also encouraged political and religious leaders to promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians irrespective of faith or background.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation for the support, describing the gesture as timely amid rising living costs. Community representatives said the distribution would help many families meet basic needs during Ramadan.
Saraki concluded by praying for peace, stability, and economic progress in Nigeria, urging citizens to remain hopeful and committed to building a more compassionate society.
