A faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the national leadership of the party to urgently intervene in the lingering leadership crisis affecting the party in the state.
The group, which described itself as concerned stakeholders, said the ongoing internal disputes and parallel structures within the party were weakening its chances ahead of future elections. According to the group, the crisis has led to confusion among party members at the grassroots level and is threatening the unity and stability of the PDP in Osun.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the group called on the national leadership of the party to dissolve the current state executive committee and constitute a caretaker committee that would be acceptable to all factions. It argued that such a move would help restore confidence among members and reposition the party for effective mobilisation.
The stakeholders also specifically urged Wike to use his influence within the party to facilitate reconciliation among aggrieved members. They noted that his experience as a former governor and a prominent figure in the PDP could help broker peace and prevent further fragmentation.
They warned that failure to resolve the crisis promptly could result in mass defections and weaken the PDPโs structure in the state. The group emphasised the need for dialogue, fairness, and adherence to the partyโs constitution in resolving the dispute.
Efforts to get reactions from the Osun State PDP leadership were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. However, party sources indicated that consultations were ongoing at various levels to address the grievances and chart a path toward unity.
Political observers say the outcome of the crisis could significantly shape the PDPโs fortunes in Osun State, especially as preparations gradually begin for upcoming electoral contests.
