A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has called for renewed unity within the opposition party following a strategic meeting with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

Olawepo-Hashim, during the visit, stressed the need for party leaders to close ranks and prioritise collective interest ahead of future elections, noting that internal divisions remain a major challenge facing the PDPโ€™s electoral prospects. He said reconciliation among stakeholders and a clear vision for governance would strengthen the partyโ€™s chances at the polls.

According to him, Nigerians are eager for credible alternatives, and the PDP must reposition itself by promoting inclusiveness, discipline and strong grassroots engagement. He added that dialogue among key figures would help resolve lingering disputes and rebuild trust within the party structure.

Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also a prominent voice within the PDP, reportedly welcomed the initiative, emphasising the importance of unity, strategic planning and cooperation among party leaders nationwide. He noted that strengthening internal democracy and ensuring fairness in party affairs would help restore confidence among members.

Political observers say the meeting reflects ongoing consultations among PDP leaders as the party seeks to consolidate its base and prepare for upcoming political contests. The discussions are expected to continue with other stakeholders as efforts intensify to foster cohesion and chart a unified direction for the party.
