Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on residents and political stakeholders in Abia State to rally behind President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, citing ongoing reforms and policy decisions by the Federal Government.

Kalu made the appeal during a political engagement with party supporters and community leaders, where he highlighted what he described as bold economic and governance measures introduced by the current administration. According to him, the policies, though challenging in the short term, are aimed at stabilising the economy, improving infrastructure, and creating long-term opportunities for Nigerians.

He stressed that Abia State, like other parts of the South-East, stands to benefit from federal projects and renewed attention to regional development, urging political actors to prioritise unity and collaboration with the centre. The lawmaker noted that supporting Tinubuโ€™s re-election bid would ensure continuity of reforms and help consolidate gains already made.

Kalu also appealed to youths and grassroots supporters to remain actively engaged in the democratic process, emphasising the need for constructive dialogue rather than divisive politics. He maintained that national development requires cooperation across political lines and regions.

While acknowledging that Nigerians are facing economic pressures, the Deputy Speaker argued that the administrationโ€™s policies were designed to reposition the country for sustainable growth. He called on critics to give the government time to implement its programmes fully.

Political observers say Kaluโ€™s remarks reflect growing mobilisation within the ruling party ahead of the next election cycle โ€” a move that has already sparked reactions from opposition figures who insist that the 2027 contest will be highly competitive.

More political activities and alignments are expected in the coming months as parties begin early positioning ahead of the presidential race.
