The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the political stance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stating that he is constitutionally free to support any candidate of his choice ahead of the upcoming elections in Abuja.

The party made this known while reacting to criticisms from opposition figures who questioned Wikeโ€™s involvement in APC campaign activities despite his background in another political bloc. According to APC officials, political participation and support are protected rights under Nigeriaโ€™s democratic system, and no law prevents any individual from campaigning for preferred candidates.

Party leaders insisted that Wikeโ€™s actions do not violate electoral guidelines, stressing that democracy thrives when individuals freely express political choices. They added that the ministerโ€™s support has strengthened grassroots mobilisation for the party in the FCT.

However, critics argue that the development reflects shifting alliances within Nigeriaโ€™s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections. Some opposition voices claim that such endorsements could blur party lines and create confusion among voters.

The APC, meanwhile, maintained that political collaboration across party boundaries is not new in Nigerian politics, urging opponents to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than personal attacks.
