Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has been honoured with the Nana Akufo-Addo Africa Democracy Award for his long-standing advocacy for democracy and good governance in Africa.

Saraki received the award in Nairobi, Kenya, at a ceremony organised by the African Democratic Union, and dedicated it to the late Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, who passed away on October 15, 2025.

Presenting the award, former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo said the recognition symbolises both encouragement and responsibility for Saraki to sustain his commitment to democratic advancement and citizensโ€™ welfare.

In his acceptance speech, Saraki thanked the ADU leadership and described Odinga as โ€œan African patriotโ€ whose life exemplified unity and reconciliation. He also delivered the keynote address, urging African leaders to dismantle dependency structures and prioritise policies that improve citizensโ€™ quality of life.

The recognition received widespread praise from delegates and parliamentarians at the event and drew positive reactions across East Africa.
