The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has dismissed reports of a banditsโ attack on the Iwo-Osogbo road, describing the claims as false, misleading and capable of causing needless fear among residents.
The monarch, in a statement on Friday, cautioned the public against spreading unverified reports that could trigger panic or tarnish the image of the ancient town. He emphasised that no such attack occurred and urged residents to remain calm.
Oluwo assured the people of Iwo and neighbouring communities that security agencies were fully alert and active across the area. He added that the community remains peaceful, and efforts to sustain safety would continue with cooperation from security operatives.
He appealed to citizens to prioritise fact-checking before circulating news, stressing that misinformation can destabilise communities and undermine ongoing security operations.
The monarch reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the traditional institution would keep working closely with security agencies to ensure Iwo remains safe and secure.
