Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), says he has received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and will honour the agencyโ€™s summons as a law-abiding citizen.

Malami made this known in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, stressing that his decision to publicly acknowledge the invitation aligns with his long-standing advocacy for openness in public service.

โ€œThis is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,โ€ he wrote.

He added that transparency and accountability have remained central to his public engagements, noting that he would continue to update Nigerians as developments unfold.

Malami, who served as the nationโ€™s chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, played key roles in major legal disputes, asset recovery efforts, and several high-profile anti-corruption cases during his tenure.

His time in office, however, also drew criticism in later years, including questions over asset declarations, contract approvals, and handling of recovered funds โ€” allegations he consistently denied.

As at press time, the EFCC has not provided details regarding the focus or scope of its invitation to the former minister.
