Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), says he has received an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and will honour the agencyโs summons as a law-abiding citizen.
Malami made this known in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Friday, stressing that his decision to publicly acknowledge the invitation aligns with his long-standing advocacy for openness in public service.
โThis is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,โ he wrote.
He added that transparency and accountability have remained central to his public engagements, noting that he would continue to update Nigerians as developments unfold.
Malami, who served as the nationโs chief law officer from 2015 to 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, played key roles in major legal disputes, asset recovery efforts, and several high-profile anti-corruption cases during his tenure.
His time in office, however, also drew criticism in later years, including questions over asset declarations, contract approvals, and handling of recovered funds โ allegations he consistently denied.
As at press time, the EFCC has not provided details regarding the focus or scope of its invitation to the former minister.
