The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its partnership with the United Nations Childrenโ€™s Fund (UNICEF) to promote child welfare, pledging consistent funding for key programmes in the coming year.

Governor Umar Namadi, who made the pledge during a meeting with UNICEF officials in Dutse, said the collaboration had yielded significant improvements in education, healthcare, and child protection across the state.

He commended UNICEF for its support in providing access to clean water, boosting immunisation coverage, and strengthening girl-child education, adding that his administration would ensure that all commitments under the partnership are met.

Namadi stated, โ€œOur relationship with UNICEF is a model of what effective development cooperation should look like. We are determined to sustain it and expand funding to ensure that every child in Jigawa has access to quality education, healthcare, and a safe environment.โ€

UNICEFโ€™s Chief of Field Office in Kano, Rahama Farah, lauded Jigawaโ€™s consistency in meeting its counterpart funding obligations, noting that the state remains one of UNICEFโ€™s strongest partners in Northern Nigeria.

He assured that UNICEF would continue to provide technical and financial support to enhance child-centered programmes in the state, especially in nutrition, water and sanitation, and education.
