The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday arrived in Kebbi State following the abduction of students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, Sakaba Local Government Area. His visit comes as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the victims and restore calm in the affected community.
Egbetokun was received by top police commanders and state officials, after which he proceeded to a closed-door security briefing at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. The police chief is expected to assess the situation firsthand, visit the school premises and meet with community leaders.
The Kebbi State Police Command earlier confirmed that armed men invaded the school in the early hours of Monday, whisking away an unspecified number of schoolgirls.
State authorities say a joint security operation involving the police, military and local hunters has been deployed to track the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the students.
Governor Nasir Idris described the incident as โdeeply distressingโ and assured families that the government is working closely with security agencies to fast-track the rescue efforts.
