The Federal Government has urged eligible Nigerians applying for the second cohort of the National Health Fellows Programme to complete their registrations before the November 30, 2025, deadline.
The NHF Programme, an initiative designed to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, is domiciled in the Sector Wide Approach Coordination Office under the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
According to information released on Wednesday, successful applicants will be recruited, trained, remunerated, and equipped with the necessary tools to support improvements in the nationโs health sector.
The programme was established to close gaps in community-level healthcare by deploying young professionals across all 774 local government areas. The first cohort, admitted in January 2025, has completed training and is currently supporting community health interventions, surveillance activities, and primary healthcare systems nationwide.
The second cohort is open to Nigerians aged 25 to 35 with degrees in health sciences, information technology, social sciences, or other relevant fields. Applicants must demonstrate the willingness and capacity to work within community settings and contribute to public health development.
โThe selection process is merit-based and transparent, involving application screening, competency review, and interview assessments. Only candidates who meet the required standards are admitted,โ a government statement said.
Successful fellows undergo structured training on public health principles, disease prevention, leadership, community engagement, and data reporting. This is followed by supervised field placements that expose them to real-world primary healthcare settings.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, noted that the programme aims to develop a new generation of healthcare leaders equipped to address Nigeriaโs long-standing health challenges. He added that the performance of the first cohort demonstrates the potential of young Nigerians when given structured platforms to serve.
The government reaffirmed that admission into the fellowship remains strictly merit-based and encouraged interested applicants to complete their submissions ahead of the deadline.
Prospective candidates are advised to visit the official communication channels of the National Health Fellows Programme for further details.
