The Speaker of the Edo State Youth Parliament, Prince Fawaz Muhammad, has resigned from his position, citing the state governmentโs lack of support and what he described as worsening socio-economic conditions for young people.
In his resignation statement, Muhammad said the parliament had been left without the basic backing needed to function effectively, despite its mandate to represent youth interests and contribute to policy discussions. He noted that several initiatives aimed at youth development had stalled due to inadequate funding and minimal engagement from relevant authorities.
According to him, many young people in the state continue to face rising unemployment, limited opportunities, and shrinking spaces for civic participation โ challenges he said the parliament had repeatedly drawn attention to without receiving meaningful intervention.
Muhammad added that his decision to step down was driven by a desire to be honest about the institutionโs current limitations and to avoid presiding over a structure that he believes has been weakened by neglect.
He thanked members of the parliament and youth groups across the state for their support, expressing hope that the government would take more deliberate steps to address the concerns of young people.
