Dr. Sijibomi Ogundele, the Group Managing Director of Sujimoto Holdings, has called on business leaders to value their teams above capital, emphasizing that loyalty, compassion, and investment in people are the foundation of lasting success.
In a moving internal Zoom meeting, Dr. Ogundele requested a list of employees who had journeyed with the company for over three years — not for layoffs, but to honour their loyalty during tough times.
> “This is not about downsizing. It’s about honour,” he clarified, surprising the HR team.
Amid Nigeria’s current economic strain, Sujimoto already supports over 20 staff families with rent and school fees, and Dr. Ogundele hinted at expanding this support further, asking:
> “Can we stretch further… into the silent battles our people fight when no one’s looking?”
Rejecting the idea that “some staff are bad,” he shared inspiring examples:
Janitors showing more integrity than executives
Junior staff using personal funds to keep the company afloat during tough early days
> “That’s not just loyalty. That’s legacy,” he stated, adding that over 100 employees have remained with the company beyond three years, a testimony to Sujimoto’s enduring culture.
