The Yoruba Leaders of Thought (Egbe Ilosiwaju Yoruba) have urged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, to immediately end their recent disagreement.

Tensions resurfaced last week after the Alaafin criticized the Ooni’s decision to confer a chieftaincy title on businessman Dotun Sanusi.

In a statement released on Sunday in Ado Ekiti, the group’s National Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, appealed to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to intervene and broker peace between the two revered monarchs and their followers.

Olusi, in the statement titled “Time to Sheath the Sword”, stressed the need for the South-West Council of Obas to set up a standing committee to prevent similar disputes in the future. He warned that such conflicts risk undermining the respect and dignity accorded to traditional rulers.

He added that at a time when the Yoruba nation should be united in supporting President Bola Tinubu, “it is disheartening that some of our foremost leaders are instead fueling division.”
