Wike: We have only one PDP — there’s no faction
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains united, dismissing claims of parallel leadership or factional divisions within the opposition party.
Wike made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across parts of Abuja. The former Rivers State governor maintained that reports suggesting the existence of rival factions in the PDP were exaggerated and politically motivated.
According to him, the party still operates under one recognised leadership structure, adding that disagreements among members should not be mistaken for a formal split. He stressed that internal debates are common in political organisations and should be viewed as part of the democratic process rather than evidence of disintegration.
The FCT minister also urged party faithful to remain focused on strengthening the PDP’s structures ahead of future elections, noting that unity and discipline would be critical to rebuilding the party’s electoral fortunes.
Wike reiterated his commitment to contributing to the growth of the PDP, while calling on leaders at all levels to prioritise dialogue and reconciliation in resolving differences. He expressed confidence that the party would overcome its current challenges and reposition itself as a credible platform for governance.
