Wike unveils new radio station in Rivers
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commissioned a new radio station, Majority FM 89.5, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The radio station was officially unveiled on Saturday, with Wike describing it as a platform aimed at strengthening grassroots communication and promoting balanced public discourse.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the former Rivers State governor said the station would contribute to democratic engagement by providing accurate information and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.
According to him, the media remains a critical pillar in sustaining democracy, stressing that radio, in particular, plays a vital role in reaching people at the community level.
Wike also urged journalists and broadcasters working with the station to uphold professionalism, fairness, and ethical standards in their reportage.
A video of the event, shared on social media platform X by user Olayinka Lere, showed the minister inspecting the facility and interacting with staff members.
The commissioning was attended by political stakeholders, media practitioners, and residents of the state.
