Wike Reaffirms Loyalty to Tinubu, Denies 2027 Presidential Ambition

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are urging him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement on Saturday, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described the report as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the country’s development.”
Olayinka said the story, published by an unnamed online platform, was a failed attempt to drag the minister into unnecessary political controversy.
“The claim that some PDP leaders held a meeting to ‘push’ Wike to run for president in 2027 is false. As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka stated.
He added that Wike is transparent about his political stance, noting that “the minister has made it clear where he stands — he is with President Tinubu.”
Olayinka also clarified that the only PDP meeting held recently was on August 20, 2025, involving stakeholders from the southern part of the country, and it had nothing to do with any presidential ambition.
