Why UNIMAID Was Renamed After Buhari – Education Ministry

The Federal Ministry of Education has explained that the renaming of the University of Maiduguri to Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri was in recognition of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s strong commitment to advancing education in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Friday by Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press at the ministry, it was revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the renaming during a special session of the Federal Executive Council held in Buhari’s honour.
According to the statement, President Tinubu described the late president as a visionary leader who prioritized national security, economic recovery, institutional reforms, and the fight against corruption.
“The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, on behalf of the Ministry and the Nigerian education sector, expresses deep appreciation to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his statesmanlike gesture in immortalising the late President Muhammadu Buhari,” the statement read.
