Why I Couldn’t Attend Buhari’s Burial – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has explained his absence at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which took place on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State.
Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State, drew criticism for not being present at the high-profile ceremony attended by numerous political leaders and dignitaries.
Speaking to Arise TV on Wednesday, Obi clarified that his absence was due to logistical challenges. According to him, there were no available flights to Katsina on the day of the burial. Furthermore, even if flights had been available, landing at Katsina Airport was impossible as it had been closed for security reasons to accommodate arriving dignitaries.
Despite missing the burial itself, Obi travelled to Daura on Wednesday to personally offer his condolences to the late President’s family.
“Mourning continues until tomorrow,” Obi explained. “So, whoever comes today or tomorrow is still part of the mourning.”
