The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, resigned from his position on Friday following reports of plans to bring former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, into the party.

Sources at the APC national secretariat revealed that Ganduje had threatened to quit earlier in the day after learning of an agreement reportedly reached between President Bola Tinubu and Kwankwaso to facilitate the latter’s defection to the APC. Despite efforts by top party officials, including the National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, to convince him otherwise, Ganduje remained adamant.

“We were pleading with him not to resign because of Kwankwaso’s planned entry into the party,” an insider disclosed. “But by around 4:15 pm, he submitted his resignation. It appears there’s a deep personal rift between them.”

Staff at the secretariat denied any crisis within the party but confirmed that members had gathered to discuss the chairman’s sudden resignation.
