The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has questioned claims that President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips attracted $50bn in investments into Nigeria, asking the government to provide verifiable proof of such inflows.

Speaking during a political interview, Adebayo argued that public officials must present clear details of investment agreements, timelines and economic impact rather than making broad announcements. According to him, Nigerians deserve transparency on the actual value and status of deals reportedly secured during international engagements.

He maintained that investment pledges do not automatically translate into economic growth unless they are backed by concrete projects, job creation and measurable outcomes. Adebayo added that citizens should be shown evidence of funds entering the economy, stressing that accountability remains key to public trust.

Supporters of the administration, however, insist that diplomatic visits and global partnerships have strengthened investor confidence, noting that some agreements are still at negotiation and implementation stages.

Political analysts say the exchange reflects growing debate over the economic impact of the president’s foreign policy strategy as stakeholders continue to scrutinise government claims ahead of future elections.
