Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not enter into any arrangement that would weaken the party or hand over power to another political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the declaration while addressing party stakeholders, supporters, and leaders in Ibadan, stressing that the PDP remains focused on strengthening its internal structures and winning elections on its own merit rather than through political compromises that could undermine its ideology and supporters.
According to the governor, the PDP has paid its dues in governance and opposition politics and is determined to reclaim power at the national level in 2027. He warned against alliances or agreements that would require the party to sacrifice its strength, identity, or chances of electoral victory.
Makinde emphasized that the party’s priority is to build unity among its members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, and present credible candidates capable of earning the trust of Nigerians. He noted that the PDP’s performance in states under its control shows that the party still has the capacity to deliver good governance.
The Oyo State governor also called on party leaders to avoid actions that could create internal divisions, adding that personal ambitions must not be allowed to derail the collective goal of returning the PDP to power.
He assured supporters that the PDP would continue to engage Nigerians on key national issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and governance reforms, positioning the party as a viable alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde concluded by urging party faithful to remain loyal, disciplined, and committed to the PDP’s vision, insisting that the party’s future depends on unity, credibility, and a clear focus on winning power rather than trading it away.
