United States Vice President, JD Vance, has cautioned Iran against attempting to “play” Washington ahead of critical talks in Islamabad aimed at turning a fragile ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement.
Speaking before departing for Pakistan, Vance stressed that the U.S. expects sincerity and commitment from Iran during negotiations, warning that any attempt to undermine the process could jeopardise progress.
The talks come amid ongoing tensions despite a temporary truce between both sides. Key disagreements remain unresolved, with each side accusing the other of failing to fully comply with the terms of the ceasefire.
Vance noted that the upcoming discussions will be crucial in determining whether both parties can move toward a sustainable resolution or risk renewed escalation.
Observers say the meeting represents a delicate moment in diplomacy, with global attention focused on whether negotiations can bridge deep divisions and stabilise the situation.
