The Supreme Court has confirmed Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected Governor of Edo State.

In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, a five-member panel led by Justice Mohammed Garba dismissed an appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo.

Ighodalo had asked the court to nullify the result of the September 21, 2024 governorship election, alleging irregularities such as over-voting and significant non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

However, the Supreme Court ruled that there was no reason to overturn the earlier decisions of both the Court of Appeal and the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had already upheld Okpebholo’s victory. The court concluded that Ighodalo failed to provide credible and admissible evidence to support his claims.
