UniAbuja Alumni Urge Tinubu to Halt Wike’s Land Revocation Plan
The University of Abuja Alumni Association has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to stop the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s plan to revoke a large portion of land allocated to the institution.
The association condemned the move, calling it a threat to the university’s growth and Nigeria’s educational heritage.
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had announced in June that his administration reclaimed 7,000 of the 11,800 hectares given to UniAbuja in 1988 under President Ibrahim Babangida.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Alumni Association President Habeeb-Ullah Abdulkadir described the action as illegal, stressing that the land was essential for academic infrastructure, research, agricultural programmes, and future expansion.
He criticised the minister for acting without stakeholder consultation or due process, warning that reducing the university’s land to 4,000 hectares would cripple its expansion plans, limit capacity for a growing student population, and undermine its role as a dual-mode institution for both conventional and distance learning.
