The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari were on Tuesday laid to rest in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

DAILY POST reports that the solemn burial ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the country and beyond.

Buhari, who served Nigeria first as a military Head of State and later as a democratically elected president under the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaves behind a complex political legacy.

In the wake of his passing, President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC now face the challenge of heading into the crucial 2027 general elections without the powerful influence Buhari once wielded.

Buhari’s death coincides with the formation of a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition, comprising prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Peter Obi, has pledged to unseat Tinubu in the next election.

DAILY POST recalls that Buhari, who contested five presidential elections between 2003 and 2019, lost three consecutive bids – in 2003, 2007, and 2011 – before finally achieving victory in 2015 and securing re-election in 2019.

Notably, Buhari consistently garnered around 12 million votes in nearly all the elections he contested, a testament to his enduring grassroots support.
