Trump: I Made No Mistake Sharing Video Depicting Obamas as Apes
United States President, Donald Trump, has said he made no mistake sharing a video on his official Truth Social account that depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.
Trump made the remark late Friday while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, insisting he does not owe anyone an apology over the controversial post.
“I didn’t make a mistake,” Trump said.
He explained that he did not watch the entire video before it was shared, noting that he only viewed the opening segment, which he claimed focused on alleged voter fraud involving election machines.
“I didn’t see the whole thing. I looked at the first part, and it was really about voter fraud in the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is,” he said.
According to him, the video was handed over to his team for posting, adding that they were expected to review it fully.
“Generally, they look at the whole thing. But I guess somebody didn’t,” Trump added.
When asked if he condemned the racist content of the video, Trump replied, “Of course I do.”
The video, which circulated for about 12 hours before being deleted on Friday morning, pushed conspiracy theories about the 2020 US presidential election and included racist portrayals of the Obamas. Its posting sparked widespread backlash from both Democrats and Republicans.
The White House initially defended the post through a statement by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who described it as an internet meme portraying Trump as the “King of the Jungle” and Democrats as characters from The Lion King.
“Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public,” Leavitt said.
Hours later, however, the video was removed from Trump’s Truth Social account following sustained public criticism.
