Tinubu, Wike to Attend Editors’ Conference in Abuja

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, will attend its 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC), scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 3 to 6.
According to a statement by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, the theme of this year’s conference is “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.” The sub-theme is “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”
The Guild said the annual gathering would focus on the role of editors in strengthening democratic values, national unity, and accountability, particularly in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
The statement explained that the conference would provide a platform for participants to discuss challenges and opportunities facing the media, while also identifying strategies for promoting inclusivity, shared values, and unity in diversity.
The opening ceremony is expected to feature President Tinubu; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; other ministers; governors; members of the diplomatic corps; and representatives of the organised private sector.
The four-day programme will also feature a keynote address and several paper presentations, including:
“Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.”
“State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
“The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and the Credibility Gap.”
“Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.”
“Wealth Beyond the Newsroom: Investment Opportunities for Editors After Call of Duty.”
Over 500 media professionals from within and outside Nigeria are expected to participate. This will be only the second time in 12 years that the ANEC is holding in the Federal Capital Territory.
The NGE said the 2025 edition is designed to help editors explore ways to promote national development and cohesion through responsible journalism, while holding political leaders accountable to the people.
