President Bola Tinubu has expressed displeasure that the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, did not disown the militants who threatened fire and brimstone against the people they perceived as his enemies.

He also criticised Fubara for not taking action against the militants who have been vandalising oil pipelines since Monday.

The President made his stance known on Tuesday during a nationwide broadcast concerning the crisis rocking Rivers State.

He said, “Some militants had threatened fire and brimstone against their perceived enemy of the governor who has up till now not disowned them.”

Tinubu further stated, “The latest security reports made available to me show that between yesterday and today there have been disturbing incidents of vandalization of pipelines by some militant without the governor taking any action to curtail them. I have, of course given stern order to the security agencies to ensure safety of lives of the good people of Rivers State and the oil pipelines.”

Tinubu also frowned at Fubara’s refusal to rebuild the Rivers State House of Assembly complex which he demolished in 2023.

He said, “Also, it is public knowledge that the Governor of Rivers State for unjustifiable reasons, demolished the House of Assembly of the state as far back as 13th December 2023 and has, up until now, fourteen (14) months after, not rebuilt same.”

The President then declared a state of emergency in Rivers, just as he handed a six-month suspension to Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers assembly.

To serve in their absence, the President nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator in the interest of the good people of the state.
