Nigeria’s Acting Ambassador to the United States, Samson Itegboje, has said President Bola Tinubu inherited a “comatose economy” along with widespread insecurity challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and herder–farmer clashes.

Speaking at an Independence Day award dinner at Nigeria House, New York, Itegboje praised Tinubu for avoiding blame games, saying the President “rolled up his sleeves and went to work.”

He highlighted Tinubu’s early reforms — removal of the fuel subsidy and scrapping of the corruption-ridden foreign exchange system — noting that while these measures were unpopular with some, they were necessary steps to rebuild Nigeria’s economy.
