President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday departed Abuja for Europe as he commenced a 10-day vacation, the Presidency has announced.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s leave forms part of his 2025 annual vacation and will last for 10 working days.

According to the statement, Tinubu will spend time in France and the United Kingdom, where he is expected to hold a series of private meetings alongside his rest. He is scheduled to return to the country once the vacation is concluded.

The President had last embarked on an official trip in July, when he attended the African Union’s extraordinary summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, before returning to Abuja.

While details of his engagements in Europe were not disclosed, the Presidency stressed that the vacation will not affect the smooth running of government activities, as Vice President Kashim Shettima and other top officials will continue with their constitutional duties in his absence.

This is Tinubu’s second official vacation since assuming office in May 2023. His previous leave, taken in mid-2024, also included a short stay in Europe.

The trip comes at a time when the administration is grappling with pressing national issues, including economic reforms, security challenges, and ongoing negotiations with labour unions over wage adjustments.

Observers say the President’s visit abroad may also provide him the opportunity to engage informally with international stakeholders on matters relating to trade, investment, and security cooperation.
