President Bola Tinubu has promised a grand celebration for the Super Falcons following their historic 10th WAFCON title win in Morocco.

The Nigerian women’s team pulled off a remarkable comeback at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 and clinch the 2024 trophy. Morocco had taken the lead through Ghizlane Chebbak in the 12th minute and Sanaâ Mssoudy in the 24th.

Esther Okoronkwo sparked Nigeria’s comeback with a penalty in the 64th minute, then assisted Folasade Ijamilusi’s equaliser in the 71st. Jennifer Echegini sealed the win in the 88th minute with a composed finish from Okoronkwo’s free kick.

President Tinubu joined the celebrations via video call, praising the team:
“We are proud of you. You lifted the nation’s spirits. Winning the title for the 10th time is no small feat. You’ll be celebrated upon your return.”

He also congratulated the coaching crew, management, and officials, urging the team to stay safe and enjoy their victory.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked the President for approving their bonuses and pledged to present the trophy in Abuja, to which Tinubu responded, “Good, I am looking forward to that.”

Earlier, Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga, described the Falcons’ triumph as a reflection of the resilience and determination of Nigerians.
