The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has appealed to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to stop de-marketing the country through negative comments and actions that could discourage foreign investors and damage the nation’s image.

Umahi made the call during an interaction with journalists in Abuja on Sunday. He said every citizen had a responsibility to project Nigeria positively and contribute to its growth rather than focus on its shortcomings.

According to him, persistent criticism and negative portrayals of the country on social media and international platforms send wrong signals that can scare away potential investors and development partners.

“We must stop de-marketing our country. No nation is perfect, but we have to talk about the good things happening here,” Umahi said.
“Our young people are talented; our engineers are doing great things. When we speak negatively about our country, we destroy opportunities that could help us.”

The minister noted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was taking concrete steps to address the country’s infrastructure and economic challenges, adding that the ongoing reforms in the works sector would soon yield visible results.

He also urged Nigerians to unite across ethnic and religious lines, stressing that the nation could only achieve progress through collective effort, optimism, and patriotism.

“We have no other country but Nigeria,” Umahi added. “Let’s talk positively about our nation and join hands to build it.”
