Sowore Storms Police HQ with Travel Bag After IGP Summons

On August 6, 2025, Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore appeared at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters with a travel bag filled with personal items, ready for possible detention. This followed a summons by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit over allegations of forgery and criminal defamation, based on a petition.
Sowore, known for his bold activism, arrived around 12:16 p.m., accompanied by his lawyers A.K. Musa and Marshal Abubakar, as well as a large crowd of supporters chanting against the government and IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The items in his travel bag — including soap, toothpaste, books, and clothes — were meant to symbolize his readiness to face imprisonment, a defiant stand against what he likely views as political intimidation.
