Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed to lead a protest against the recent demolition of houses in Oworonshoki, Lagos, despite heavy police presence across the state.

Sowore condemned the Lagos State Government over what he described as “a cruel and heartless attack on the poor,” saying no government should destroy people’s homes without providing alternatives or compensation.

According to him, the planned protest will hold soon to demand justice for the displaced families and to call for accountability from the authorities involved.

“You cannot demolish people’s homes at night and expect silence. Lagos belongs to everyone, not just the rich. We will stand with the victims of Oworonshoki until justice is done,” Sowore said in a statement shared on social media.

Reports indicate that police have stationed officers around major areas, including the Third Mainland Bridge, Ojota, Maryland, and Lekki Toll Gate, to prevent any public demonstration.

Despite the tension, some youth groups and civil society members have expressed readiness to join the protest, insisting that the demolition violated citizens’ rights and worsened homelessness in Lagos.
