Shooting Stars have denied holding Ikorodu City players and officials hostage after Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 32 encounter.

The Oluyole Warriors were held to a 0-0 draw by Nurudeen Aweroro’s side at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

Ikorodu City’s bus was reportedly vandalised by Shooting Stars supporters.

The players and their officials were also held at the stadium for around two hours, before they were escorted out by military operatives.

Shooting Stars in a statement on Monday said their opponent and match officials were asked to stay inside the stadium due to the tense atmosphere outside the ground.

“We wish to clearly state, through this medium, that no players and officials were held hostage after Sunday’s match,” reads the statement.

“We actually needed to take such step as a safety measure for the two teams and match officials, after we got informed about the rowdy, unsafe and unconducive atmosphere outside.”

“We also want to refute reports that players and officials of Ikorodu City were attacked, and that their bus was damaged, nothing of such happened as the team left the arena well guarded by security personnel.”
