SDP Expels El-Rufai, Imposes 30-Year Ban

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has officially expelled former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, and imposed a 30-year ban on him.
According to a statement from SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) and spokesperson Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the action was taken in accordance with the party’s constitution and Nigeria’s electoral laws, which grant political parties full control over their membership.
> “El-Rufai is hereby banished and banned from applying for membership… or participating in any affairs of the SDP for a period of 30 years effective from today,” the party declared.
Members have been warned not to associate with El-Rufai or others who do not align with SDP’s core values.
El-Rufai had joined SDP after exiting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is also a prominent figure in the opposition coalition that recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections.
