Rivers State Crisis: APC’s Tony Okocha Gives Governor Fubara an Ultimatum—Resign or Face Impeachment!

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha and the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara
The political crisis in Rivers State has reached a critical stage as Tony Okocha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resign or risk impeachment.
Okocha’s demand comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s validation of 27 state lawmakers loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, confirming them as the legitimate legislative body. This ruling has intensified the political power struggle in the state.
A ‘Greek Gift’ or Genuine Reconciliation?
Governor Fubara recently invited the 27 lawmakers to a meeting, an attempt some viewed as a reconciliatory move to ease the escalating political tension. However, Okocha dismissed the invitation as a “Greek gift,” suggesting that it was a deceptive ploy rather than a genuine effort to mend political rifts. He questioned why the letter of invitation was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, instead of the governor himself, calling it an aberration.
Okocha’s Accusations Against Fubara
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Okocha launched a scathing attack on Governor Fubara, accusing him of:
- Running the state into economic and political instability
- Flouting the law and ignoring the Supreme Court’s ruling
- Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, Tony Okocha and the state governor, Siminalayi FubaraDisrespecting President Bola Tinubu by failing to implement his eight-point reconciliation agenda
He further described Fubara as “clueless,” stating, “The governor behaves like a saint, but he is a dangerous snake.”
‘Resign or Be Impeached’—Okocha’s Ultimatum
According to Okocha, the APC will not stand by while Fubara continues to “mismanage the state.” He declared that the governor has two options:
- Resign honorably
- Face impeachment proceedings
Okocha warned that Rivers State is “sitting on a keg of gunpowder” and could spiral into chaos if decisive action is not taken. He insisted that Fubara stepping down would prevent further instability and political crisis.
What’s Next for Rivers State?
As the political battle intensifies, all eyes are on Governor Fubara. Will he resign, or will impeachment proceedings begin? The coming days will be crucial in determining the state’s political future.
