The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that the Rivers Rainbow Coalition donated ₦500 million to the family of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi.
Wike said the donation was made to support the establishment of a foundation in honour of the deceased lawmaker, aimed at preserving his legacy and contributing to community development.
According to him, the gesture reflects the late senator’s impact and the respect he commanded among political associates and stakeholders in Rivers State.
He noted that the foundation is expected to focus on initiatives that will benefit the people, particularly in areas aligned with Mpigi’s contributions during his lifetime.
The announcement has drawn reactions from political figures and community members, many of whom commended the initiative as a meaningful way to immortalise the late senator.
Observers say the move underscores the role of political and community groups in supporting bereaved families while promoting legacy-driven projects.
