Rivers State Deputy Governor, Ngozi Odu, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Professor Odu formalised her defection on Tuesday by registering as a member of the APC in her ward in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA), Rivers State.

Her move marks a significant political development in Rivers, coming amid ongoing realignments within the state’s political landscape. Party officials in the area confirmed her registration, describing it as a major boost for the APC ahead of future political engagements.

Although the deputy governor is yet to issue a detailed statement on her reasons for leaving the PDP, sources close to the development say her defection is linked to internal party disagreements and broader political calculations in the state.

The defection of a sitting deputy governor is expected to further intensify political activities in Rivers State, where rivalry between major parties has remained strong in recent years.

APC leaders in ONELGA welcomed Odu into the party, assuring her of full support and integration, while PDP stakeholders are yet to officially react to her departure.
