Fresh indications of reconciliation have emerged in Rivers State following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the lingering political crisis rocking the state.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were said to have met with the President during a late-night meeting in Abuja.
Sources familiar with the development said the closed-door meeting was aimed at easing tensions and finding a lasting political solution to the prolonged rift between the two key political figures, whose disagreement has significantly affected governance and legislative activities in Rivers State.
Although details of the meeting were not made public, insiders disclosed that Tinubu appealed for calm, unity, and cooperation in the interest of peace, stability, and development in the oil-rich state.
The crisis, which has pitted Fubara against his predecessor and political ally-turned-rival, has led to deep divisions within the state’s political structure and strained relations between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The intervention by the President is being viewed by political observers as a major step toward reconciliation, with expectations that dialogue facilitated at the highest level could help restore political stability in the state.
More developments are expected to unfold in the coming days as stakeholders await the outcome of the high-level engagement.
