Rivers Assembly Screens Fubara’s Commissioner Nominees
The Rivers State House of Assembly has commenced the screening of nine commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Siminalayi Fubara following the recent dissolution of his cabinet.
The screening exercise, which took place at the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt, is part of the constitutional process required before the nominees can be confirmed and sworn in as members of the State Executive Council.
During the session, lawmakers questioned the nominees on their professional backgrounds, previous public service experience, and their plans for contributing to the development of Rivers State if confirmed. The nominees also addressed issues relating to governance, economic growth, security, and infrastructure development in the state.
Speaker of the House, who presided over the proceedings, emphasized the importance of the screening process, noting that it ensures only competent and capable individuals are appointed to serve in the state’s cabinet.
Governor Fubara had earlier dissolved his cabinet as part of efforts to restructure his administration and bring in new individuals who will help drive his government’s policies and developmental agenda.
Political observers say the screening exercise is expected to be completed within a short period, after which the Assembly will decide whether to confirm the nominees.
If approved, the nominees will be sworn in as commissioners and assigned portfolios to assist the governor in implementing his administration’s programmes aimed at improving governance and service delivery across Rivers State.
Further updates on the confirmation process are expected as the Assembly continues its deliberations.
