Reps seek emergency relief for Niger, Kwara flood victims

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to urgently send emergency relief materials — including water purification equipment — to flood-affected communities in Mokwa, Niger State, and Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State.
This follows devastating floods caused by relentless rainfall between May 28 and the early hours of May 29, 2025. The disaster resulted in:
Over 500 confirmed deaths
More than 600 people still missing and presumed dead
At least 200 injured
Destruction of over 4,000 houses
The motion, presented by Joshua Audu Gana (PDP, Niger) and Saba Umaru (PDP, Kwara), described the flood as one of the most severe the region has seen in decades.
