A member of the House of Representatives representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Gboyega Isiaka, has affirmed the commencement of a comprehensive education intervention plan to address rural communities often affected by lack of education funding, resources and infrastructure.

Isiaka, who is also the House Committee Chairman on Polytechnic and Higher Technical Education noted that the plan which focuses on five key areas – deploying additional teachers to schools, enhancing infrastructure, funding and supporting students, boosting technical/vocational training, and organising youth mentoring programs; aims to reinforce Ogun State government’s efforts to develop an impactful education system.

“Quality education is a fundamental right and our duty is to ensure its enhancement here. We want to nurture our youth to be future leaders and positively contribute to society,” he said in a release made available to the press on Tuesday.

He noted that the first initiative was the deployment of no fewer than 40 additional English and Mathematics teachers across the constituency’s secondary schools, beginning in April 2024.

“More teachers and subjects will be added from the next academic session. Accommodation and other support will also be arranged for newly posted teachers.

“Our students deserve the greatest support to achieve their ambitions. I am fully committed to steering progress on education in Yewa North and Imeko-Afon,” he said.

While highlighting the persisting lack of Information Communication Technology infrastructure in schools, he identified the essence of technology and youth mentorship as a top priority.

“A youth mentoring initiative is being devised to connect students to inspirational role models from the constituency. This he said will help nurture the students into well-rounded personalities and positively guide their career aspirations.

“Scholarships, financial aid and sponsorship support will continue for deserving students. The distribution of free Joint Admission Matriculation Board forms to students has already begun. Extramural exam preparatory classes will further aid their performance. A new technical/vocational skills acquisition centre within the constituency is also being proposed,” he added.

Isiaka had in June 2023 presented a 15-year development plan that would usher in unprecedented prosperity in the sub-region.

The development plan was part of a presentation by the Rep member titled “Pushing the Frontiers of Prosperity in Yewa North/Imeko Afon Federal Constituency” during a stakeholder engagement meeting held at Joga Orile in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Reps member said the development of border communities, agriculture, industrialisation, microbusiness empowerment through loan grants, road construction, youth and women’s empowerment are central to the development plan.
